The site
Autoroutes du Maroc operates the national motorway network. Its website serves two quite different purposes at once: the corporate and institutional presence of a major public operator, and a practical service people consult before they travel.
I worked on this site as part of the team at FORNET.
What the project involved
Two audiences with different urgency. An institutional visitor is reading about the company — governance, projects, tenders, reports. A driver wants network information, toll details, service areas. One is browsing; the other wants an answer now. The information architecture has to serve the urgent case without burying the institutional one.
Service content has to be structured. Network sections, interchanges, toll information and service areas are data, not pages. Modelling them as entities means they can be listed, filtered and presented in several places without being maintained several times.
Public-operator content standards. Tenders, official publications and corporate reporting have their own conventions and their own approval paths. The editorial workflow follows the organisation's real structure.
Reliability matters more than novelty. This is infrastructure. The site needs predictable performance and a maintenance path that doesn't depend on anyone's cleverness — core and well-maintained contributed modules over custom code wherever that choice is available.
