ANLCA

The site

ANLCA — the Agence Nationale de Lutte Contre l'Analphabétisme — coordinates Morocco's national literacy programmes. It works through partner organisations, associations and public bodies delivering literacy teaching across the country.

Its website publishes programme information, resources for those partners, and campaign material. I worked on this site as part of the team at FORNET.

What made this one different

The audience includes people learning to read. That is not a throwaway observation on a literacy agency's site — it argues for plain language, clear structure, and not relying on dense text where a simpler layout would do.

Arabic first. On a national literacy site, Arabic is not the translation. Right-to-left layout has to be the primary case in the theme rather than a stylesheet override applied afterwards, with French and English alongside it.

Partners are the delivery network. The agency works through associations and public bodies, so the content model has to represent programmes, the partners running them, and the regions they cover — with resources attached to the right combination of those.

Campaigns come and go. National literacy campaigns run on their own cycles, so the site needs content types that let an editorial team launch and retire campaign sections without a developer.
